Ultimately, i aim to become a doctor, so towards the end of my current degree i will need to apply to universities that offer a graduate medicine course. I can either stay at leicester to do this, or i can apply elsewhere. If i am to obtain a place on a graduate medicine course i will need to obtain at least an upper second class honours degree, in addition to this, i will need to take the UKCAT test.

I also need to maintain an interest in medicine, if i am to gain a place as a postgraduate. To do this i will need to keep updated on affairs in the medical world and should try to gain more experience. To gain more experience i am hoping to work at a low secure unit over the summer, this will involve working with and caring for the mentally ill, which is a field that i have not yet had chance to work in, but that i am very keen to explore.

Furthermore, i have contacted TLC (tigers learning centre) about volunteer work. TLC is a programme for underachieving children, it provides out of school learning. I am really interested in volunteering with this group, as i found found volunteer work extremely rewarding in the past, further to this, working with children will allow me to gain experience with young people. This will also help my application to medicine, and i will learn how working with children is different. I will also be exposed to some of the issues facing children, issues that may cause them to be underachieving at school, and i feel that to be a role model, and to be some one to listen and understand these children is very fulfilling. Through my volunteering and work experience so far i am understanding the requirements and skills of a good doctor.
